Rabbit Awareness Week 18th-26th June 2016

The UK is a nation of self-confessed pet lovers with recent research showing that rabbits are the 4th most popular pet in the UK with 0.8 million rabbits.
Every year Burgess Pet Care, together with its partners MSD Animal Health, RSPCA, PDSA, The Blue Cross, Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund and Wood Green The Animals Charity join forces to focus on a different aspect of rabbit care and welfare.
During the RAW week thousands of vets and practices across the UK offer free health clinics for local rabbits and their owners.
Like us, rabbits are social animals and companionship is crucial. However, 57% of the UK’s pet rabbits live alone. The primary objective of this year’s campaign will be a #BuddiesforBunnies pledge to inspire pet owners to consider suitable friends for their single rabbits by encouraging re-homing from welfare centres.
Over 67,000 rabbits are given up for adoption in the UK every year. The reasons given for leaving them at rescue centres vary from regretted impulse purchases, the cost of vaccination and neutering and behavioural issues.
