VetSkill Level 5 Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Practice Nurse)
This qualification is designed for the training and development of Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) wishing to advance their knowledge and skills in practice nursing to a mastery level beyond that of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Day One Skills and Competences.
It is intended to provide relevant practical skills and underpinning knowledge that is relevant to the role of a Registered Veterinary Nurse working within the practice and consulting environments, and will demonstrate mastery of practice nursing skills. Evidence-based nursing and research is expected throughout this qualification to explore best practice and critically compare current processes.

How long will it take?
This Level 5 Diploma offers 60 credits (270 guided learning hours) and can take up to 12-18 months to complete.

What are the entry requirements?
Learners must have a current listing on the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Register of Veterinary Nurses to be able to undertake this qualification.
How is the qualification assessed?
You will compile a skills portfolio to demonstrate your mastery of practical skills. Each of the skills listed must be signed off to mastery level by an MRCVS or RVN who holds the VetSkill Level 5 Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Practice Nurse). The VetSkill Level 5 Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Practice Nurse) skills portfolio is assessed and internally quality assured by the Centre and externally quality assured by VetSkill.
You will complete one assignment to demonstrate knowledge and understanding. The assignment will by marked by the Centre.
Practical Case Reports
You will complete three practical case reports to be included in the evidence requirements in the portfolio. The practical case reports are set by VetSkill and marked by the Centre.
You will complete one written examination assessing the six theory units of the qualification. The written examination is set and marked by VetSkill.
You will complete one long case scenario and professional discussion. The practical examination is set and marked by VetSkill.
