The development of the new VetSkill VTEC Level 3 Award in Canine First Aid has been employer led and designed for learners who are currently working roles involving canine care, holding either employed or voluntary positions, or for those who are seeking to expand their canine first aid knowledge and skills.

The unit contained within this Ofqual-regulated qualification has been rigorously developed to include the essentials for applying canine first aid, whilst also supporting the development of theoretical knowledge and the necessary practical skills.

Throughout this qualification, learners will gain the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required to effectively manage a range of canine first aid emergencies. It explores the current legal restrictions and ethical limitations applicable when dealing with canine first aid emergencies. Learners will be able to identify and categorise canine emergency situations, and describe the signs, symptoms and management that can be applied to each situation.

This Level 3 Award has 15 guided learning hours (GLH) with a total qualification time (TQT) of 22.

  • There are no formal or specific academic or learning entry requirements to undertake this programme. The nature of both the learning and assessment is such that basic literacy and numeracy skills are required. This qualification is available to learners of 16 years of age and over.

  • Portfolio of Evidence

Throughout the qualification, learners will compile a portfolio of practical and written evidence to demonstrate assessment of their practical competency and underpinning knowledge and understanding. This is assessed and internally quality assured by the centre, and externally quality assured by VetSkill.
