The development of this qualification has been employer led and designed for learners currently working within the dog grooming sector, holding either employed or voluntary positions, or for those seeking future employment opportunities within the dog grooming sector.
The units within this regulated qualification have been rigorously developed to include the essentials for working within the sector as a dog grooming assistant while supporting the development of theoretical knowledge and the necessary practical skills.
Throughout this qualification, learners will gain the knowledge and skills to provide bathing, basic grooming and drying for various dog breeds, coat types and health conditions. Learners will successfully adapt to the individual needs of the dog and customer and will cover all aspects of the grooming process. A dog grooming assistant is expected to be responsible for meeting the welfare needs of the dogs in their care during grooming and maintaining a professional and safe working environment in line with legislation and company policies.

There are no formal or specific academic or learning entry requirements for learners undertaking this programme. The nature of the learning and assessment requires basic literacy and numeracy skills. This qualification is available to learners 16 years of age and over.

Portfolio of Evidence
Throughout the qualification, learners will compile a portfolio of practical and written evidence to demonstrate practical competency and underpinning knowledge and understanding. This is assessed and internally quality assured by the centre, and externally quality assured by VetSkill.

There is one synoptic online multiple-choice examination that assesses underpinning knowledge and understanding. Examinations are set and marked by VetSkill.
