VetSkill unveils new Licensing of Animal Activities qualification to be delivered in Wales

Exciting news! We have now added the VetSkill VTEC Level 3 Award in the Licensing of Selling Animals as Pets to our qualifications portfolio.

This Ofqual-regulated, private qualification is set to be delivered and assessed by VetSkill approved centre Animal Focused, who currently delivers the VetSkill VTEC Level 3 Certificate in Licensing of Animal Activities.

The VetSkill VTEC Level 3 Award in the Licensing of Selling Animals as Pets is designed for learners working for local authorities in Wales where carrying out licensing inspections under The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (Wales) Regulations 2021 is part of their role.

This regulated Level 3 qualification meets the requirements for animal licensing officers to be suitably trained, providing the underpinning knowledge and skills for the licensing of all licensed animal activities in Wales, specifically selling animals as pets.

The units contained within this qualification have been rigorously developed to include the essentials for working within the sector legally, professionally and ethically, whilst supporting the development of theoretical knowledge, complemented by the necessary skills required to fulfil the roles and responsibilities of the animal licensing officer.

Throughout the qualification, learners will compile a portfolio of written evidence to demonstrate their underpinning knowledge and understanding.

This new qualification will be exclusively delivered and assessed by Animal Focused. Approved as a VetSkill centre in August 2024, Animal Focused is an award-winning educational consultancy and training provider for pet businesses, welfare organisations, Local Authorities and schools.

Vicky Skinner, Head of Centre at Animal Focused, expresses:

"It has been great to build on the success of the VetSkill qualification for English licensing officers. Having devolved licensing legislation means we have to deliver bespoke training when in Scotland and Wales and this new qualification means we can offer something truly fit for purpose and ensure suitably qualified officers across Wales."

We are thrilled to see this high-quality qualification finally off the ground and into the expert care of Animal Focused. A huge well done to our Qualifications Team for working so hard to prepare the qualification for approval, and thank you to Animal Focused for being well equipped to deliver it!
